How to combat anxiety and overwhelm in daily life...
Talk it out – Share your thoughts with a trusted friend, family member, or counsellor. Talking reduces the emotional “load.”
Practice mindfulness – Even 5–10 minutes of mindful breathing, meditation, or grounding exercises can help calm racing thoughts.
Journal – Writing down feelings or gratitude lists can help process emotions and increase self-awareness.
Move daily – Regular physical activity (a brisk walk, stretching, dance) releases endorphins and improves mood.
Balanced nutrition – Aim for regular meals, plenty of water, and a variety of fruits, vegetables, and whole foods.
Prioritise sleep – 7–9 hours of quality sleep supports emotional regulation and resilience.
Be kind to yourself – Speak to yourself as you would to a friend.
Accept ups and downs – It’s normal to have off days; mental health is a journey, not a destination.
Seek help early – If you notice persistent sadness, anxiety, or overwhelm, professional support can make a huge difference.

These ideas are meant as helpful tools, not rules. Life can be unpredictable and challenging, and it’s completely normal to struggle with some—or all—of these at times. There is no judgment if you can’t always eat well, exercise, meditate, or keep up with self-care. Mental health isn’t about doing everything perfectly; it’s about noticing what you need, taking small steps when you can, and showing yourself compassion no matter where you are in the process.
If you feel you’d like extra support along the way, LS Therapy- Bristol offers a safe, non-judgmental space to explore what you’re going through and to find approaches that work for you, at your own pace.
